Made using a chunk of oak from Newtownabbey, which fell in 2019.

Oak is known as King of the Forest, and has associations with longevity, wisdom, and to many people, survival.

The design is taken from the Skaill Penannular Brooch, found at Skaill, Orkney, one of the largest Viking hoards found in Scotland. Dated c950-970, the brooch features brambles on one side and the dragon, replicated here, on the other.

Measures around 12 inches in diameter, 4.5cm deep.
